what I've been saying about LJ all along

This mindmap seems to show what I've been saying about LJ all along: It doesn't accurately reflect the important connections in my life. None of my family members have accounts. (Make that nuclear family memebers. Gotta remember bram, a second cousin.) Neither does my boyfriend or my best friend. Furthermore, although the mind map supposedly shows the most important people in my life in bigger letters, and closer to my username, it's wrong. I'm sure it's based on how many comments I have made on people's LJs (and possibly how many comments they've made on mine?). But the thing is, my comments haven't necessarily been on the LJs of those people I know best, or consider my closest friends. For example, both whymc and leleth_faery are important to me. They are among the reasons why I started reading LJ, before ever deciding to write one. But because I haven't happened to comment on their LJs in the few weeks I've been on, their usernames on the mind map are quite small and even distant.

However, it's entirely appropriate that my "peep turf" according to the mind map is Madison, WI, never mind that I now live in San Diego, before which I lived for a year in Eau Claire, before which I lived for a year in Fargo. None of those sojourns was long enough to change where my friendships really lie. So I guess there at least the mind map is accurate. We'll see how long I have to live in California before that fact shifts. (For example, cczernia and scout1222 are here in San Diego, and I've commented on their LJs, but so far they don't show up very close to me in the mind map.) After all, as I was saying to someone yesterday, I spent so much money and effort getting here - I won't be moving back to Madison, or anywhere in the Midwest, anytime soon!
